What is silica gel & why it works
A high-purity desiccant
Silica gel is known for its drying efficiency and water-vapour capacity. Despite the name it is actually solid. It removes moisture and humidity — a "drying agent" — and is non-toxic and non-flammable, conveniently packed in a breathable sachet.
Absorption efficiency
Efficiency rises with higher humidity, higher pressure and lower temperature. Silica gel can be regenerated by sun-drying and heating up to 150°C — but never above 250°C, where it permanently loses its absorption properties.
Key advantages
Adsorbs up to one-third of its own weight in water vapour — roughly 35% more than typical desiccant clays. It has an almost indefinite shelf life when stored airtight, and can be reused after gentle heating.
Safe & inert
Silica gel is a very inert material. It will not normally attack or corrode other materials, and it reliably protects your export items from moisture damage.
